Forest-Carbon-Crime: mapping near-future illegal forest activities and carbon loss

    Project: NWO project

    Project Details

    Description

Tropical forests are crucial in climate change mitigation, yet nearly half of tropical deforestation is illegal and thus considered a forest crime. This research aims to map near-real-time tropical forest disturbances, drivers and carbon emissions and make short-term predictions on their location, time, quantity, and legality to avoid future forest crimes.
