Food waste supermarkets

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Since 2018, the supermarket industry has been mapping food waste. Participating supermarket chains voluntarily report on their food waste and, on the basis of confidentiality, provide the data to Wageningen University & Research (WUR). WUR in turn analyses and scales the data for the entire Dutch market.

The Food Waste Monitor is an initiative of Centraal Bureau Levensmiddelenhandel (CBL) and is part of the implementation agenda of the Together Against Food Waste Foundation (Stichting Samen Tegen Voedselverspilling). The research is carried out by Wageningen Food & Biobased Research and funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV).
