Extreme drought Amazonia: Transferring fundamental research to the Uatumã Reserve communities

    Project: NWO project

    Project Details

    Description

Two key aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals defined by United Nations are to protect, restore and promote use of terrestrial ecosystems and to ensure inclusive and equitable quality of education (goals 4/17). Motivated by these goals and aiming to make them concrete, we put forward a proposal combining fundamental research the moisture recycling under drought conditions the Amazonian basin with the transferring of knowledge to Brazilian PhDs and the local Amazonian communities. We plan to develop research and education tools to show the synergies between the rainforest and clouds to create awareness on current fragility of the Amazonian ecosystem.
