Description
The Standing Committee on Agricultural Research (1974, renewed in 2005) consists of representatives of the EU member states that advise the European Commission and Member States on coordination of agricultural research. Since 2005 this coordination is broadened to the European Research Area: EU + candidate and associated countries (in total 37 countries). In 2006 the Ministerial meeting in Krems (Austria) demanded SCAR to include questions of advisory services, education, training and innovation in their discussions. This was followed by a 2008 Communication: “the Commission intends to make use of SCAR to identify agricultural knowledge structures in each Member State, with a view to eventually creating a corresponding CWG”. In 2009 France and the Netherlands volunteered to set up a Collaborative Working Group. In 2015 the SCAR Strategic Working Group AKIS-3 on Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems is co-chaired by the Netherlands. This role is carried out by mr. Krijn Poppe, LEI Wageningen UR, together with Mrs. Anne Vuylsteke of the Flanders’ government. He collaborates with the Dutch delegation in the working group to align interests. Krijn Poppe will be assisted by (researcher) mrs. Floor Geerling-Eiff, LEI Wageningen UR. This Working Group will finalize its work in November 2015. This includes preparing and chairing meetings, dissemination activities, overseeing a number of outsourced studies and the writing of the end report, to be published in 2015.
