Project Details
Description
In recent years, WR provided training and advised WBD on probable diagnoses when necessary. There is a need for the BGC and WBD to collaborate more, to coordinate matters more efficiently and to ensure that knowledge regarding the diagnosis of bee diseases can be maintained up to date.
This project aims to create a streamlined knowledge structure, aimed at transferring scientifically based knowledge to bee health coordinators and working groups on bee health and diagnosis. Outputs in 2024 and 2025 include, for example, a coordinated curriculum, practical training days, webinars, professional journal publications, an innovative research project on virus detection using swabs, a diagnosis tree and protocol and a database with clinical pictures.
In view of expected future new diseases and pests that will threaten the honey bee sector, the knowledge developed provides building blocks that will be relevant for both the veterinary sector and for future projects in the field of a robust beekeeping sector and pollination services.
