EU-21025-CATCO2NVERS: Creating added-value chemicals from bio-industrial CO2 emissions using integrated catalytic technologies (KB-50-001-003)

Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

In CATCO2NVERS, mild, catalytic technologies are being developed to convert CO2 into chemicals. Here, different forms of mild chemical conversion are used, based on biocatalysis, heterogeneous catalysis and electrochemistry. The chemicals produced are then tested in the production of end products (biopolymers, cosmetics). The CATCO2NVERS consortium includes knowledge institutions, (biobased) industries as suppliers of CO2 and catalysts and end users of the chemicals. As such, the project comprises the complete chain required to apply the technologies to be developed in practice.

By developing technologies for converting CO2 into valuable chemicals, CATCO2NVERS contributes to reducing industrial CO2 emissions. Moreover, the CO2 that is converted is extracted from biomass derived from agro-side and residual streams and VGF waste, making the chemicals produced serve as a renewable alternative to fossil-based chemicals.
