Escape and swimming performance of flatfish

Project: PhD

Project Details

Description

To quantify swimming and escape behaviour of sole and plaice. These aspects will be studied systematically, and quantitatively by means of laboratory experiments on wild-caught fish using advanced motion capture technologies. I will study responses to diverse types and intensities of stimuli, both for chasing the fish out of the sediment, and for manipulating their swimming behaviour in the water column. Based on this study, the best stimuli (or combinations thereof) will be selected for proficient fishing with the lowest possible ecological footprint.
