Ecology of sustainable potato production

Project: PhD

Project Details

Description

Climate change is likely to have a negative impact on potato production in India and other similar places where extreme weather events (e.g drought and flooding) occur frequently in the near future. However, the quantitative impact of these climatic events on potato development and growth remains largely unknown in the field conditions. Furthermore, the identification of physiological tipping points for potato growing in these regions will improve current crop models. The knowledge we obtain from this project will potentially benefit farmers, researchers, industry and policymakers in on-farm practices, exploring future research, identifying mitigation solutions to climate change and conducting risk assessment respectively.
