Description

Abstract

This project explores and clarifies opportunities of the innovative techniques within the technology field Biotechnology and Breeding with respect to three policy missions of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food safety, i.e. Circular agriculture, Climate neutral agriculture, and Valued, healthy and safe food. The research focuses on opportunities of new plant breeding techniques to enhance the development of new plant varieties that fit well in innovative, robust plant production systems (in combination with agroecological principles) or help to make existing production systems more sustainable. Opportunities to produce new varieties  that fit well in climate-smart farming systems are also being studied.

Results are progressive insights on the opportunities and threads of new breeding technologies with respect to meeting goals of the aforementioned policy missions.  These insights are formulated in such way that they can be used by policymakers, and that may facilitate stakeholders and public in general to form themselves an educated view.
