Dietary fiber quantity, type and diversity, and microbial metabolites in relation to recovery after colorectal cancer treatment.

Project: PhD

Project Details

Description

My project focuses on the role of dietary fiber and microbial metabolism in relation to side-effects of cancer treatment in patients with colorectal cancer. These side-effects include postoperative complications of surgery and chemotherapy-induced toxicities. To study this, I will combine data from an observational study (i.e., COLON study), in vitro studies, and an intervention study. In my research I not only focus on the impact of dietary fiber quantity, but also investigate fiber type and fiber diversity which are understudied concepts in the field of nutrition and disease.
