Dealing with salinization (KB-34-002-029, KB-34-002-006)

Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

Salinization is an urgent global problem that negatively impacts food security, and the Netherlands is alsoaffected by increasing salinization of arable land. So far, most research on salinization has been fragmented whereas the salinization problem requires joint effort from multiple disciplines and stakeholders from different sectors. This project aims to use a multi-disciplinary approach to determine promising agriculturalstrategies that are socio-economical and environmentally friendly for both inland-and coastal zone-management of salinization. Connection to  the  WUR  community  on  salinization  and  other  stakeholders  outside  of  WUR  bridges  the  gap  between  science  and practice.  Thereby, identifyingtransition pathways necessary  for upscaling  crop-soiladaptation  strategies tosalinization,  as  well as marine-based solutions  for dealing with salinization.Overall, the project delivers multiple interdisciplinary solutions that are relevant for coping with salinization problems on both inland and coastal zones.
