Present apps that give advice on healthy diets often rely on basic, superficial knowledge knowledge about the relation between nutrition and health. As a consequence they fall short in personalising advice and giving scientific support for this advice. This is due to the fact that the required knowledge is mostly available in terms of heuristics in the heads of experts. The knowledge is often ambiguous, incomplete an contradictory. In most cases the link with scientific evidence in literature is hard to find if at all.

This project develops an approach in which we link heuristics expressed by experts to scientific findings. By using ontologies and information retrieval methods we aim to create these links semi-automatically. Ultimately will these science-based knowledge rules to better advice for consumers.
