Project Details

Description

At WUR and the Topsectors, there is much research attention for the development of new technologies that make the food production system more sustainable and increase the Dutch (and European) food sector’s competitiveness.    For successful implementation of these new technologies, acceptance by end-users is crucial. Theories on acceptance and diffusion of new technologies are still fairly poor at predicting response to new cases. In this project, knowledge from the practice of technology development (Plant Sciences Group) is bundled with social scientific expertise (Social Sciences Group) in order to better align the development of new technologies with societal needs and concerns. It will generate insight in factors that influence public response to new technologies, and thereby facilitate the effective implementation of new technologies that contribute to sustainability. This project year is the last in a series of four, and the main aim will be twofold: to collect and consolidate the project’s results so far, and to translate these results to implementation in technology development.
