Description
Co-financing strategically aligned EU projects is essential to strengthen our organization’s impact in European research and innovation,. By selectively engaging in projects that match our long-term goals and research priorities, we ensure that our participation not only advances scientific excellence but also contributes directly to our institutional mission and societal impact.
EU funding serves as a powerful multiplier of our internal strategic (KB) budget. Through targeted co-investment, we can significantly leverage external resources to expand the scope, scale, and influence of our research efforts. This approach enables us to engage in high-profile consortia, access cutting-edge infrastructure, and accelerate innovation in key areas of transformation, such as sustainability, digitalisation, and health.
However, EU funding often does not fully cover the actual costs of participation—particularly when tariff structures are lower than institutional norms. To address this, we maintain a dedicated internal co-financing budget designed to bridge the financial gap between the required internal tariffs and the funding levels provided by the EU. As WR is very successful in acquiring EU funded projects, the earmarked budget is not enough, so KB budget is also used to support strategic projects that cannot be funded from the main cofinancing instrument. This ensures that our participation remains financially sustainable without compromising on quality, talent, or institutional standards.
Strategic use of this internal co-financing fund allows us to support projects with the highest potential for scientific, policy, and societal relevance. Proposals are assessed not only for financial feasibility but also for alignment with our research agenda, potential for capacity building, and contribution to our international positioning.
