Climate-resilient agriculture in the Dutch salinizing coastal delta: innovative water management, adaptive agriculture, and promising transition pathways (AGRICOAST)

Fresh water availability for agriculture in the Dutch coastal area is limited and under pressure of climate-change. AGRICOAST aims to enhance the fresh water availability by means of various technological innovations and management solutions; make optimal use of both current and enhanced water resources for agricultural crop production; and support the societal transition towards climate-adaptive agriculture, based on evaluation of existing and newly designed interventions and governance. By means of design-based research, the uptake of the developed water management and crop production innovations is facilitated to pave the way to self-sufficient and climate(-change) robust agriculture in the Dutch coastal region.

Zoetwaterbeschikbaarheid voor landbouw in het Nederlands kustgebied is schaars en staat onder druk van klimaat verandering. AGRICOAST het tot doel om de zoetwaterbeschikbaarheid te vergroten door diverse technologische innovaties en management benaderingen; door optimaal gebruik te maken van huidige en verhoogde zoetwaterbeschikbaarheid voor gewasproductie; en om kansrijke transitiepaden te identificeren gebaseerd op een evaluatie van huidig beleid en voorstellen voor nieuwe bestuurlijke organisatie en geintegreerde beleidsplannen. Door middel van op ontwerp gebaseerd onderzoek wordt de implementatie van de ontwikkelde innovaties gefaciliteerd om de weg te banen naar zelfvoorzienende en klimaatrobuuste landbouw in het kustgebied.
