Can’t escape the WaterScape: redeveloping water and governance systems for dealing with climate impacts in the Dutch Delta (WaterScape)

With projected increase in floods and drought it is apparent that the Dutch water system needs to change. In WaterScape we explore large scale spatial transitions in the physical and governance water system. In this project we explore, opportunities, challenges and conflicting interest between different land use and stakeholder groups. With the full consortium we will study three living labs in: Brabant, Utrechtse Heuvelrug and Groningen with the potential to expand our findings to regional and national scale to create a more climate robust water landscape for the future

Met een sterkte toename in overstromingen en droogte is het duidelijk dat het Nederlandse watersysteem moet veranderen. In WaterScape kijken we welke grootschalige transities er in het fysieke watersysteem, bestuur en beleid nodig zijn om grote aanpassingen in landgebruik te doen. In dit project onderzoeken we waar de kansen, uitdagingen en conflicterende belangen liggen tussen verschillende functies en partijen. Samen met onze stakeholders gaan we dit onderzoeken voor Brabant, de Utrechtste Heuvelrug en Groningen met de potentie om de bevindingen regionaal en nationaal te gebruiken om het Nederlandse watersysteem klimaatbestendig te maken.
