Project: EZproject

Project Details

Off the Dutch coast harbour porpoises are caught incidentally in the Dutch fishery. It is not known if this bycatch is detrimental for the Dutch harbour porpoise population along the Dutch coast and in the Dutch North Sea because the bycatch numbers are not recorded systematically. The harbour porpoise is a protected species. In this research project  Remote Electronic monitoring (REM) is conducted, using cameras on board of gillnet fishers to see how many porpoises are caught in what type of fishing gear.
