Description
In many countries in the world there is a struggle for the optimisation of agricultural and aquaculture production areal. Diverse areas are currently subject to salinization, resulting in a reduction of suitable fresh water production areal. There is a great need to further develop frameworks to link the productivity of aquaculture products and agriculture production.
The developments of frameworks/models to choose different aquaculture production scenarios has been previously build. However, the link between crop production and aquaculture has yet to be developed. Simple models to map the areal potential and productivities in a changing (saline) environment are required for rapid screening of the potential in different areas in the world. These tools may further be used for improved assessment of Building with Nature concepts in saline areas.
This study will therefore:
Identify suitable frameworks for aquaculture and agriculture
Develop simple model to map areal potential and productivities in a changing (saline) production environment
Develop high end integrations of agricultural and aquaculture models (including productivity and value chain perspectives)
Test models based on case studies in CGIAR A4NH flagship ‘Healthy Food systems’ areas
