Project Details

Description

The first European Reference Center for Animal Welfare (EURCAW) was started on 1 October 2018 under the supervision of Wageningen Livestock Research. The Center aims to support EU member states in the implementation and enforcement of European legislation on the welfare of pigs. This concerns welfare on the farm (eg Directive 2008/120 / EC), during transport (Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005) and during slaughter (Council Regulation (EC) No 1099/2009). EURCAW will provide this support through 5 activities, which are focused on 1. Coordinated assistance; 2. Animal welfare indicators, 3. Gaps in knowledge, 4. Training and 5. Dissemination.

In the months of October - December 2018, the work programme for the years 2019-2022 will be drawn up on the basis of the needs of the Member States. LNV will make an important contribution to this plan. The work programme will be available at the beginning of January 2019.
