Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

Three sheep breeds in the Netherlands are in 2007 exempt from the ban on tail docking, on the condition that an effective breeding policy for shorter tails is developed. In 2012 is and in 2017 will the breeding policy of the past few years been evaluated. All three herd books have set up breeding value estimation to reduce the average tail length. The evaluation will focus on if the breeding values are available at the time of selecting, if the breeders use this information and what are the selection results on the population.
