The central government and provinces have committed themselves to the objectives in the Forest Strategy with the ambition to realize 37,000 hectares of forest. The realsation of the forest must be done in a way that achieves the intended objectives of the forest as well as possible. There are choices to be made about tree species, planting method, sowing or spontaneous afforestation, spatial arrangements of species, planting techniques. However, there is a lack of insight into afforestation methods and their effects on the realization of functions. The choice also strongly depends on the local situation and intended goals. This project provides insight into the various available afforestation methods, their costs and their effects on the realization of functions. Decision-making is supported by an assessment framework.
