In 2018, an Action Plan to rescue Species-rich Nardus grasslands was established (Bobbink and van der Zee 2018). Nardus grassland (H6230) is a species-rich ecosystem on sandy, loamy soils and in the dunes in The Netherlands. The state of conservation of this priority Natura 2000 habitat type is dramatically bad. The Action Plan specifies in concrete terms which actions must take place in the coming 5 years to preserve these grasslands in the Netherlands. There is great willingness among provinces and site managers to get started. It is a province-transcending plan and the many parties involved need coordination, because otherwise it would be difficult to implement the plan effectively. In the coming years, the action plan must result in numerous pilots for the restoration and expansion of the area of Nardus grasslands in various provinces. The Action Plan is scheduled for 5 years, from 2018 to 2022.
