Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

For sustainable fisheries management in the IJsselmeer and Markermeer, an overview of stock trends in four commercially fished stocks is desirable, namely for pikeperch, perch, roach and bream. For the overview of these stocks, the IJsselmeer area is sampled. This has been done for years in the WOT program WOT-05-001-006, but due to dissatisfaction among the fishermen, we are now investigating whether fish stock sampling with a paired trawl could be an addition or an alternative to the monitoring with the beam trawl. With a pair trawl, a wider spectrum of species and length classes can be sampled1,2. In this project, in consultation with relevant policy makers and in cooperation with experts and knowledgeable fishermen, a standardized sampling with a pair trawl survey will be set up and implemented, and it will be further investigated how this can be used for a reliable data set for fisheries advisory models. A report on the 2021 sampling will be released in spring 2022, while the 2022 sampling will be reported in 2023.
