Spinoza Prize 2018

Prize: Prize (including medals and awards)

Description

Wageningen Microbiology Professor John van der Oost has just been awarded the Spinoza Prize. He and his group are to use the prize money of 2.5 million euros, the largest prize in the sciences in the Netherlands, to fund new research paths for the previously discovered CRISPR immune system in bacteria. This system can be used to make crops hardier and to tackle hereditary diseases in animals, and in principle even in people.
