Research interests

Maia is a postdoctoral researcher at the Sociology of Development and Change Group at Wageningen University & Research. She is involved in the LODESTAR project, which focuses on community-driven early warning systems for disaster preparedness across the Netherlands and India. In this role, Maia collaborates closely with academic colleagues and research partners, including municipalities and water boards, to advance knowledge on the social and governance dimensions of disaster risk management.

Maia is close to completing her doctoral research at the University of Brighton (UK). Her research examines the complex interplays between water-related challenges and mundane mobilities within the context of so-called 'urban fringes,' focusing on the East London borough of Newham. Her doctoral work sits between and contributes to the fields of human geography, urban studies and political ecology.
