Research interests

Johanna Sophie Buerkert is a postdoc at the Environmental Policy Group. As part of the Horizon REDRESS project (Project number: 101135492), she investigates the governance arrangements of deep-sea restoration in the European Seas. 


She obtained her PhD in international law from the University of Copenhagen in 2024. Her dissertation investigated the role of law in socio-ecological resilience Arctic communities, focusing on communities in Alaska, Kalaallit Nunaaat (Greenland) and Canada that conduct bowhead whaling.

Johanna is interested in investigating governance approaches to address the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss, preferably from an interdisciplinary angle.
