Description
Novel resistant starch type 3 (RS-3) substrates with specific physico-chemical characteristics were fermented in vitro using pooled pre- (3-week-old) and post- (7-week-old) piglet faeces for 48 h. The RS-3 substrates included P14-A, N18-A, N18-B and N32-B. P14-A is prepared from alpha-glucans of DPn 14 and has an A-type crystal. P14-A contains approximately 40 % rapidly digestible starch (RDS), 45 % slowly digestible starch (SDS) and 15 % resistant starch. N18-A is prepared from alpha-glucans of DPn 18 and has an A-type crystal. N18-A contains approximately 12 % RDS, 0 % SDS and 88 % RS. N18-B is prepared from alpha-glucans of DPn 18 and has a B-type crystal. N18-B contains approximately 50 % RDS, 23 % SDS and 26 % RS. N32-B is prepared from alpha-glucans of DPn 32 and has a B-type crystal. N32-B contains approximately 95 % RS.
