Description

This dataset accompanies a study on the 2024 farmers’ protests in Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. It includes coded data derived from 2,232 farmers’ open-ended survey responses on farmers' reasons for protesting. Using a combination of manual and AI-assisted coding, the study categorizes protest reasons and emotional tone and links them to national and EU policy responses. The dataset captures cross-country differences in protest motivations and emotional expressions, reflecting diverse forms of agricultural discontent. Original text responses are not included due to confidentiality.
