Dataset

Description

Data from an in situ experiment on a dike in Living Lab Hedwige Prosperpolder and a case study at Voorland Nummer Één, both locations in the Netherlands along the Scheldt Estuary.

In the experiment we simulated foreshore wrack deposition. We monitored erosion resistance for flood protection and ecological value. The dataset contains measurements in 90 plots at the in-situ experiment and in 3 plots at the case study.

This dataset contains files from aboveground and belowground vegetation measurements and observations:

Photographs of each plot (shared in time lapse video)

Wrack thickness measurements

Vegetation species indication and general descriptions

Vegetation cover

Soil moisture content

Rooting density estimation (doorworteling)

Natural wrack deposits, mainly at Saeftinghe

The data is described in the following publication:

Van den Hoven, K., B.M. Baaij, P.A. Slim, S. Valentijn, J.M. van Loon-Steensma. Foreshore wrack deposition on green dikes: an (un)fortunate consequence of nature-based flood protection.
