    Since first discovered in tomatoes in 1999, the main effect of Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV) is to produce symptoms on fruit that can result in downgrading or even rejection. This has an economic impact on the growers, for example, it is known that the Chilli2 strain of PepMV, recently introduced to Europe, can reduce yields of Class I fruits by between 13 and 23% depending on growing conditions
