Eco-System-City: Water, Green and Urban Cooling for Utrecht

Press/Media: Public Engagement ActivitiesProfessional

Description

With more greenery, a city becomes cooler and more climate-resistant. This green requires water to survive, but is that water also available during dry summers? That is the question that the city Utrecht worked on with Wageningen Environmental Research and the partners of the TKI project Eco-System-City. By making a model link between the Town Energy Balance Model and the National Hydrological Model, we can estimate whether there is enough water available, how much it will help with cooling and advise how greening the city could be shaped. This is part three of six films on the TKI project Eco-System-City (www.ecosysteemstad.nl), in which we show the importance of green and blue in cities in various research pilots. Production: FocusOn (www.focuson.nl). TKI Eco-System-City is made possible by the Knowledge and Innovation Agenda Agriculture Water and Food of the Dutch government, Top Sector Water & Maritime, Top Sector Agri & Food and Top Sector Horticulture & Starting Materials.
