Eco-System-City: cost-benefit analysis of growing sites for urban trees in Rotterdam

Press/Media: Public Engagement ActivitiesProfessional

Description

In cities that heat up, urban trees are an important part of climate adaptation in the urban landscape. They provide shade, capture particulate matter from the air and create space for biodiversity. But in a city like Rotterdam, there is no guarantee that a tree will just grow into a healthy, old, full-sized tree. How do we create and pay for growing sites for our trees where they can grow well so that they contribute permanently to the liveability of our cities, now and far into the future? This is part four of six films on the TKI project Eco-System-City (www.ecosysteemstad.nl), in which we show the importance of green and blue in cities in various research pilots. Production: FocusOn (www.focuson.nl). TKI Eco-System-City is made possible by the Knowledge and Innovation Agenda Agriculture Water and Food of the Dutch government, Top Sector Water & Maritime, Top Sector Agri & Food and Top Sector Horticulture & Starting Materials.
