Developing unique robotic systems for automated fresh salad ingredient packaging

The use-case Food Factories, in the KB Robotics project, focuses on 3D vision-based robotic dosing of ingredients for automated salad-box preparation. The goal is to pick and dose ingredients to meet target weight specifications that vary across different salad recipes. This is challenging because salad ingredients differ significantly in size, shape, composition, density, and hardness, requiring robust perception and adaptive robotic handling. In this article we go into the details of why and how of solving this challenge at the intersection of robotic actuation, 3D vision and machine learning.
