Title Anti-poaching efforts rhinos in South Africa less effective than previously thought Degree of recognition International Media name/outlet Environmental Sciences Media type Web Country/Territory Netherlands Date 24/06/24 Description The decrease in the number of poached rhinos in Kruger National Park in South Africa is not caused by fewer poachers, but due to a decrease in the number of rhinos. Calculations by Jasper Eikelboom and Herbert Prins of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) show that pressure from poachers has remained persistently high since 2013. This is contrary to what authorities claim. Their findings are published in Science Advances.
