Description
Explore whether, when and how different kinds of academic knowledge matter, and the challenges of doing research differently. I have trained university masters and PhD students for several years in Participatory Action Research (PAR), inspired by the work of Paulo Freire and Orlando Fals Borda, and participatory processes for facilitating transformative learning. We can reflect on distrust of researchers and on how science and social science research findings are (not and could be better) used to support societal change. We can also explore the frictions that students trained in conventional research approaches experience when learning to do - and actually doing - research in more inclusive, more transdisciplinary and less extractive ways.
