Description
Visit Climate Change Ambassador New Zealand. Collaboration New Zealand, Colombia and WUR@COP26.Last week we received the newly appointed Dutch Ambassodor for New Zealand: Mr Ard van der Vorst. His predeccessor, Ms Mira Woldberg will move on to Berlin.
Mr Van der Vorst, being from a farmers family once was about to start with a study in Animal Sciences but then decided to study politics, however he still feels connected with live sciences. I discussed with him the recent visits of New Zealands climate ambassador, Kay Harrison, and Sussanah Gordon, The New Zealand ambassador in The Hague and how to follow up on these.
A second element of his visit was a meeting with Esther Heemskerk on behalf of the Exchange office to discuss the exchange process with universities in Oceania and how the ambassador can help to improve the balance of in- and outflow of students.
After a campus tour, Mr. Van der Vorst had a lunch with Ernst van den Ende and Simon Oosting to discuss opportunites of our research in the field of animal production systems, Marine Research and our research in the Caribean on Small Islands Development States (SIDS) strategies which is also very interesting for the polynesian Islands.
Bottom line is that Ambassador van der Vorst is very willing to help us in finding appropriate (funding) partners to create impact in NZ and the Pacific Islands.
