International forest policies for conservation: treaties, instruments and effectiveness

Activity: Talk or presentationLecture/seminar/webinarProfessional

Description

We are all aware of the importance of forests as an ecosystem and in their role in mitigating climate change, however many of us know a lot less about international forest and conservation policy and the international treaties on forest conservation. Now that the SIB is raising money for forest conservation, we can take this opportunity to learn more about what legal treaties and policy instruments at the international level to protect “the earth’s lungs”. What is the relationship between international forest policies and local practices and the other way around? What is the current status of international forest conservation and what will the future look like? Prof. dr. Bas Arts will join us to answer these and other questions.
